A web-based alcohol risk communication tool: Summary of the development process

Download (663.38 kB)

An overview of the process of developing a prototype web-based alcohol risk communication tool.

This prototype tool was developed to assist primary care clinicians to screen for and communicate risks of alcohol-related harm to their patients. It provides a risk score for patients and interactive features to demonstrate how a patient’s risk level would change if they made changes to their drinking behaviour. The tool was developed in three phases: firstly, conceptualisation and evidence reviews; secondly, formative research and prototype development; and thirdly, pre-testing and refinement of the prototype.

A full description of the development process will be published as a journal article in 2019.

For more information about using the tool in practice, contact the Health Promotion Agency.
